Because Naruto became so popular they made an anime based on it. But because the manga is still going the anime eventually caught up and couldn't wait for the manga to finish. The show has a thousand episodes but only the first half follow the manga, then they go off in their own direction. Basically everything I said about the plot/characters/how much you'll like it, for the manga, applies to the anime.There are about (at the moment) six, animated, Naruto movies, only three of them are apart of the first anime.
So if you go to one of your anime web sites you now know that the one that just says 'Naruto' means, anime based off the manga....till the second half when they gave up on patience.
