Death Note

Death Note is a widely popular anime and manga series. The story center's around a high school student in Japan named Light Yagami. Light is an incredibly smart and hansom young man. But he's bored. He's bored and a god of death named Ryuk is also bored. When Ryuk drops his Death Note down to earth where Light Yagami picks it up the world and the way we think of Death Note will change forever. A Death Note is a little note book that gives the owner the ability to kill anyone just by writing down their name in the book. What makes this anime/manga series so intriguing is Lights character. He justifies killing people. He knows its bad to kill, but what if you're just killing the bad guys? But then how do you know who's really bad? Light is our main character so we want to be on his side, we want to sympathies for him and vote for him, but is he really the one we should be routing for?

One of the other character's in this series is L. L will easily become your favorite character in any anime/manga series. He weird and odd, he's funny and smart and you know nothing about him! He is the detective hired to track down the killer that has been killing every bad person out there.

The manga and the anime are almost exactly the same, the only difference is there's more talking and describing in the manga. Which i must say makes me vote for the anime because even in the anime there's way too much describing. The manga is pretty well done. The art is a little typical for a Japanese manga but there are aspects of it that are completely original. This is the same for the anime. I highly recommend both. The best way to describe this story is by saying its completely original. Its full of twists, humor, and horror. This story will get you thinking and questioning. You will love this story, then hate it, then love again and then finally you will despise it and yourself for loving it.

There were two live action films based off of the anime but those were two of the worst films I've ever seen. There are also video games, Light novels, merchandise and crazy fans, which, trust me, you will become if you decided to delve into the world of Death Note.

Le Portrait de Petit Cossette

Le Portrait de Petit[e] Cossette is only three episodes long so if you're looking to watch an anime in a short amount of time, this would be the one. This anime was confusing! It was constantly throwing images at you that at first don't seem to make any sense to whats going on, but really, it all fits together.

The story is about Eiri Kurahashi, a student who works at an antique shop. (by the way this anime will forever make you question antiques) For one day he finds a glass that when he looks through it he sees a young girl. Eiri starts to fall for this girl and starts drawing pictures of her every chance he gets. Eventually one night he makes contact with her.

This is one twisted romance of a story. The basic plot is very interesting but it can be hard to follow. I think it was well done. It was scary and haunting. (yet again, not a anime for the squeamish) But the graphics weren't bad and it is defiantly memorable.

Fear[s] of the Dark

or Peur(s) du noir. This is a French animated film that was not made for the weak of mind, little kids, or people who just get scared really easily. Fear[s] of the Dark is a collection of black and white short stories created by different animators. Each story is interesting and well done, but also, scary.

This is a horror film and when you start watching it you think 'oh its not that scary,' but as the film goes on your fear starts to build till eventually you cant stand being in the dark living room anymore and you have to turn the lights on and you don't know how you'll ever get to bed that night or any other night!

Not every story had a clear plot but that may have been intentional for then after you're done watching you'll start wondering what was going on.

I highly recommend this film. It was very well done, each story was beautifully created and each story making you question and wonder, breaking down your guard so when the next story starts to play before your eyes the fear creeps in a little more.

Here's the trailer, if this scares you in the slightest it may not be the film for you. Seriously.

Anime Character of the Week

Kyouichi Horaiji is the coolest character from an anime show we reviewed a while ago, Tokyo Majin. If you read the review (like you should have) you may have noticed that we didn't think it was very good. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't mention the only really cool character in the show!

Kyouichi Horaiji is a rebellious, delinquent at Magami High. He becomes best friends with the new, mysterious student after randomly attacking him :)

Kyouichi Horaiji is the boss of a gang and is always carrying around a wooden sword thing that probably has a name, but whatever, he's a highschool kid! he shouldn't be carrying the thing around in the first place!!

He can be very mean and sarcastic, but thats why we love him! He can fight and has magical powers! OH YEAH :D So anyways, i don't have a video of him to show you, and i don't really suggest watching the anime, but he's a cool character that must be mentioned ;)

Princess Mononoke

Lets start up again with one of the best anime films out there. If you guess our lord, Hayao Miyazaki as the creator of this film, then... YOU ARE CORRECT! The movie is a few decent years old but its still a master piece. Beautiful and moving the movie takes place in Japan where the guardians of the forest are at odds with the humans. Our main character, prince Ashitaka, has been cursed by a beast and now must find a way to stop the curse from killing him. So he travels to Iron Town were the people are fighting with the beasts of the nearby forest, which are led by a young girl, Princess Mononoke.

Great characters, fight scenes, just the right touch of humor, the plot is sweeping and the surprises along the way are a treat.

This is a must see movie, if you haven't already seen it, and you probably have for it is a very well known film.... AND FOR GOOD REASON! This movie is amazing. Thats all there is to say, just, Amazing.

Anime Character of the Week

Anime Character of the Week is, Scar, from Fullmetal Alchemist! Scar is a character that, thankfully, has been in all the versions of FMA. And his story and powers in the animes closely follow everything in the manga.

Scar is a surviver from the Ishbalan Rebellion. And because he saw so many of his loved ones die in the pointless battle he's decided to get his revenge and kill all the state alchemist's. Scar stands alone, on his own side, but that side tends to be the opposite of the main characters of FMA so for most of the time Scar is always fight our good guys. But thats ok, cause things happen........ Just read/watch FMA!

We don't know Scar's real name, but we do come to learn a lot more about him as time goes on. He's very strong, fast, and he has a tattoo on his right arm that gives him the ability to destroy things. This is one of the things that makes him so dangerous and hard to kill. Scar is always serious, ALWAYS. He's smart, has a goal, and nothing is going to get in his way if he wants you dead.

Ponyo

The most recent movie by our god Hayao Miyazaki is Ponyo. If you failed to see it in theaters then you must run out and get it on dvd for it is now available for your viewing pleasure. XD

This film was so weird, as most Miyazaki movies are, but it was also brilliant and beautiful. Creative and colorful, this movie was done in water colors which fits because the movie has to do with the sea and those that live there. The story is about a little boy, Sōsuke, who finds a little 'goldfish' in the sea and he names her Ponyo. But Ponyo isn't really a goldfish but one of the daughters of the sea. The story is an adventure and a love story that all must see.

Cute, funny, great characters, everybody will love this movie! :) (and if you don't then there is something wrong with you...)

Anime Character of the Week

This weeks, Anime Character of the Week is, Ty Lee, from Avatar the Last Airbender! :)

Ty Lee is extremely bubbly, thats the best way to describe her. She was born into a family of seven girls so she ran away to the circus, to be seen as separate from her sisters.

Even though Ty Lee cant bend any of the elements she is still as powerful and dangerous as any of the other characters. Because she's able to stop someone from using their bending by pushing certain pressure points. She's an excellent fighter and acrobat, which makes her a very hard opponent to beat.

Ty Lee doesn't show up in the anime show till season 2. And she isn't one of the 'good guys' in the show for she is a close friend of Azula. So for most of the anime she's helping Azula trying to catch Zuko and/or Aang. But we still love her!
